CCEP Chiropractors understanding the neurological system (spine) must be in balance with the mechanical control system (extremities) is the key approach sets them apart and gives results and stability to patients.
Why should you care that the extremities be addressed by a chiropractor?
Because the stability of the spine is dependent on the stability of the extremities, and vice versa. As a patient, you can have a perfectly aligned spine and still experience severe discomfort that may result from misalignment in your extremities. Misaligned extremities put additional pressure on the tissues around the joints, causing subluxations (dislocation of a joint).
Having a properly aligned spine AND extremities puts you on the path to optimum health.
Q. Shouldn’t my Chiropractor (or any for that matter) be able to fix my problems?
A. Doctors of Chiropractic are taught how to adjust the spine in chiropractic school, but very little time is spent learning how to adjust the extremities. Most licensed DC’s go into practice as spine-only doctors, then some add extremity adjusting to their list of services with time. Many of those who seek advanced education in extremity adjusting (like our CCEP program) end up working with high-performing athletes, while many DCs remain solely focused on treating the spine only.
If you are an active person, chances are you experience aches and pains in your joints and extremities from time to time. If that’s the case, it’s more than likely that a spinal adjustment alone won’t cure the root cause of the problem. You might experience some relief, but if you have extremities that are out of alignment, your spinal adjustment isn’t likely to hold for very long.
Remember, the stability of the spine is dependent on the stability of the extremities, and vice versa.
Q. What types of ailments can a CCEP fix?
A. A CCEP is trained to assess, diagnose, and treat root causes to recurring pain in the spine AND extremities. He/she is equipped to successfully treat TMJ, Shoulder Girdle Syndromes, Tennis Elbow, Carpal Tunnel, Knee Subluxations, Baker's Cysts, Sprained Ankles, Shin Splints, Foot and Gait mechanics, misaligned hips, and leg length issues.
Do you work on your feet all day? Sit at a desk all day? Lift heavy objects all day? A combination of all of the above? If so, chances are you have some extremity issues that need to be addressed. By not getting the proper extremity treatment, your body attempts to over- compensate, which could lead to more subluxations in other joints and your spine.
An extremity expert (CCEP) is equipped to help you gain relief from these abnormalities by properly aligning both the neurological system (spine) and the mechanical control system (extremities) of your body for optimum performance.
The Council on Extremity Adjusting (CEA) was founded by Dr. Kevin Hearon, internationally acclaimed expert on extremity adjusting, who has written several books on the subject. Dr. Hearon is also the President of the Council on Extremity Adjusting. The Council is governed by seven board members and several instructors dedicated to the advancement of knowledge regarding extremity adjusting in the chiropractic profession worldwide. There are currently over 1,200 CCEPs in practice around the globe.
